FAQ
Who is this program for?
These adventures are for veterans and first responders, and are guided by veterans and first responders. You do not have to be retired or transitioning to attend these programs. And you don’t have to be an ‘old hat’ to join us either. Learning about mental health and mental performance can help you at any stage of your career.
What exactly do we learn?
Our experienced guides will teach you how to live and travel in the wilderness. And you’ll also be shown the requisite skills needed to complete your particular adventure; rock climbing, paddling, etc. Our guides and mentors will also share with you mental performance techniques and stress coping mechanisms that have served them during their careers. These are mental models, or frameworks, that can be applied prior, during, and after stressful / demanding situations in your career and life. Participants are also encouraged to share what has worked for them in the past. The team learns from everyone on the trip as we share, laugh, and grow- together. A rising tide raises all ships.
Do I need to be diagnosed with PTSD to attend?
No. These programs build mental toughness and resilience for anyone who attends. But it’s certainly beneficial for those who are recovering from PTSD. For those who have been diagnosed with PTSD, our program works really well if you are further along in your recovery. If you’re feeling like your ready to get back to work, or take on your next challenge, it’s time to come adventure with us. Our Alumni have gone on to: finish law degrees, start businesses, retire peacefully, find love, and return to work after a long hiatus.
How tough is this going to be?
There’ll be challenges during the week. And everyone struggles with different aspects of these trips. You’ll be tested, but using the skills you’ve been taught, and working as a team, we’ll get through anything thrown at us. Hard work, works. You’ll always get back what you put it. What you get out of this program will be directly connected with how much you put in. If things are easy in your life, you’re going the wrong way. It will be hard. It will be fun. And you’ll never forget what you’ve experienced.
Can I bring my phone?
Yes, for pictures. There’ll be no cell service where we are going. The more you disconnect from technology, the better.
How much does it cost?
Participants will be required to make their own travel arrangements to get to our starting locations. If this is an issue, we can work on a individual bases to find solutions to get you to where you need to be. We will make it work! And we ask that everyone chip in $100 or $200 for food, depending on the trip. The rest of the program costs are covered by our gracious donors!
